Tbilisi, as beautiful as the name is lyrical, is the capital city of Georgia. It is ensconced on the banks of Kura River, and is the largest city of the country. The city was founded in the 5th century AD, the monarch of the Kingdom of Iberia who was known as Vakhtang I Gorgasali. The weather in Tbilisi remains pretty humid, with extremely warm summers and comparatively cooler and pleasanter winters. The coldest month in Tbilisi is January with an average temperature of 2.3 °C, whereas the hottest month is July with an average temperature of 24.9 °C. The average annual temperature here remains around 13.3 °C.
The main attractions of Tbilisi include Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi, National Botanical Garden of Georgia, the Narikala Fortress, Anchiskhati Basilica. Tbilisi Zoo, Kartlis Deda monument, Kashveti Church, Saint George's Church, Jvari Monastery, Mtatsminda Park, Bridge of Peace and Freedom Square, as well as several others. Tbilisi is well on its way to become a popular tourist attraction.
The main international airport of Tbilisi is the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport, which operates with TBS as its IATA code and UGTB as its ICAO code. The airport used to be referred to as the Novo Alexeyevka International Airport. It is located almost 17 kms away from the city center of Tbilisi. It is the busiest airport of the country, in terms of passengers handled in a year.
The airport, operated by TAV, is capable of handling more than 2.2 million passengers on an annual basis.
